Mössbauer Spectroscopy in Study of Nanocrystalline Iron Oxides from Thermal Processes

  • Original language description

This chapter reports on exploitation of 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy in the study of nanocrystalline iron(III) oxide polymorphs and amorphous Fe2O3 synthesized through thermally induced solid-state reactions. It describes polymorphs of iron(III) oxide arediscussed in details with respect to their structural and magnetic properties and how they are reflected in their characteristic Mössbauer spectra recorded in a broad range of temperatures and inductions of external magnetic field. The chapter focuses on applicability of Mössbauer spectroscopy in monitoring solid-state reaction mechanisms that lead to iron(III) oxide phases. It provides an overview on various types and modifications of Mössbauer technique that enable to acquire a complex knowledge on physicochemical properties of nanosized application-promising iron(III) oxide phases.
