First records of the white-rumped sandpiper and brown-hooded gull south-east of the Antarctic Peninsula
Original language description
We report on the extraordinary observations of two bird species, the white-rumped sandpiper (Calidris fuscicollis) and the brown-hooded gull (Larus maculipennis), on James Ross Island in Antarctica (64o10'S, 57o45'W). Our observations are, to our knowledge, the first records of these species from the east coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. We discuss the role of James Ross Island as a convenient resting site for vagrant birds.
