Hydrogeological investigation for assessment of the sustainability of low-arsenic aquifers as a safe drinking water source in regions with high-arsenic groundwater in Matlab, southeastern Bangladesh

  • Original language description

Shallow groundwater in Matlab, southeastern Bangladesh, is contaminated by arsenic and unsuitable for water supply. Deep aquifers exhibit much lower dissolved arsenic concentrations and their pumping was suggested as an alternative water source. In thisstudy, the impact of deep aquifers pumping on water quality has been investigated by combination of pumping tests, groundwater flow modelling and application of isotopes.
