Original language description
Basic algebras were introduced as a common generalization of MV-algebras and orthomodular lattices, the structures used for an algebraic axiomatization of the so-called multiple valued logic and the logic of quantum mechanics. The paper gets an overviewof results on basic algebras, the characterization by means of a bounded lattice with section antitone involutions and shows what a logic can be axiomatized by means of these algebras. Some applications of basic algebras are included.
