Original language description
This paper describes the result of collaboration between the Department of Geoinformatics, the Regional Authority of the Olomouc Region and the City of Olomouc. The project was focused on the creation of a comprehensive methodology for the PAM maps. Thepreparation of the methodology was divided into several phases: Study of the currently used maps, their symbology and data models, Negotiations with map users (officers), identifying their needs, Proposal of a new symbology and Proposal of organization spatial data in ArcGIS and user environment for easy updating of new maps. The paper deals especially with the process of designing symbology and creating four thematic maps. The process of designing a complex symbology is described. The new symbology respects basic cartographic and semantics rules and meets the needs of decision-making. Multiple revisions were done in cooperation with employees of the Department of Regional Planning of the Olomouc City and employees of the Olomouc Region
