Comparison of stocks using a fuzzy decision matrix

Fuzzy decision matrices, recently interpreted as a fuzzy rule-based system, represent a tool for solving decision-making problems under risk where the information about the states of the world and/or about the future outcomes of alternatives is vague. In the paper, we apply a fuzzy decision matrix to the following problem: Two stocks are to be compared based on the expected values and variances of their yields. The future yields of the stocks depend on the fact which of the possible states of the economy will occur. The states of the economy are described only vaguely; they are modelled by fuzzy sets on the universal set on which the probability distribution is given. The yields of the two stocks under the states of the economy are set expertly by fuzzy numbers.
