Spatial patterns and intraspecific diversity of the glacial relict legume species Vavilovia formosa (Stev.) Fed. in Eurasia.

  • Original language description

Vavilovia formosa is the sole member of its genus, one of five genera in tribe Fabeae, (Fabaceae, Leguminosae) with close phylogenetic relationships to Pisum. The plant grows in rocky areas of subalpine and alpine levels from 1,500 m to 3,500 m, with the Central and Eastern Caucasus and Taurus as its heartland. It is distributed in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Russia and Turkey and in most of these countries is recognized as an endangered and protected plant. This study was conducted to reveal its intraspecific variability, as well as to predict the past, extant and future species distribution range.
