Effects of inbreeding on milk production, reproduction and type traits in dairy cattle.
Original language description
The aim of this review is to summarize the results of research in dairy cattle of the effect of inbreeding on economically important quantitative traits (milk production, reproduction and type traits). This article focus on scientific studies from 1990 to 2015 based on large numbers of animals, DNA analysis, modern biotechnological method and other techniques which have provided insight in this topic. This review shows the negative effect of inbreeding on production (milk, fat and protein production), reproduction (age at first calving; conception rate; number of services; stillbirths, etc.) and chosen type traits. A number of publications also demonstrated other characteristics of inbreeding, such as the non-linearity of inbreeding depression, the cumulative effect of inbreeding etc.
