Possibilities of development of spatial orientation and independent movement of persons with severe visual impairment

  • Original language description

Spatial orientation and separate movement is one of the most affected areas in individuals with severe visual impairment. We would like to introduce the development of independent movement and spatial orientation within the Czech Republic as well as the possibility of facilitating the integration of the individual into society through modern aids - maps, orientation elements, etc. In the paper we present both theoretical and empirical studies, which are currently solved in our locality. Both will be linked on the basis of the practical experience of the authors, as well as on the basis of project solutions to the given topic. The contribution presents the joint research in the framework of the project Development of independent movement through tactile-auditory aids at the Institute of Special Education Studies and at the Department of Geoinformatics, Palacký University Olomouc, Czech Republic. Among other issues, a new type of tactile maps has been developed using the most advanced 3D printing options. The research includes the concept of creating tactile maps, testing them with users, and engaging in modern tactile cartography in different levels of education, including long-life education.
