Raw material distribution in the Late Pallaeolithic of Bohemia and Moravia
Original language description
Different cultural groups were identified in the Late Palaeolithic of Bohemia and Moravia in the past. This contribution gives an overview of these groups but applies a new approach to the problem of Late Palaeolithic settlement in the area, highlighting the use of chipped stone raw materials in different sites. As a result, two to four raw material provinces, i.e. territories supplied preferentially by one raw material, have been identified. These provinces are not necessarily in concordance with the cultural groups identified by past authors. It is even probable that most of Bohemian and Moravian sites belong to the Arch-Backed pieces Technocomplex (ABP) so that the only substantiated division of local groups is within the identified raw material provinces.
