Letter-to-the-Editor concerning „Valence-state-engineered electrochemiluminescence from Au nanoclusters“

  • Original language description

In their recent publication, Wang et al. (1) reported on engineering of electrochemiluminescence (ECL) stemming from gold nanoclusters entrapped in bovine serum albumin (BSA-AuNCs). The authors (1) concluded that by adjusting the Au(I)/Au(0) ratio (given by the incubation time) in the BSA-AuNCs system, they formed four different internal structures, which led to three different anodic ECL processes. However, there are several serious discrepancies in the characterization of the four different internal structures of BSA-AuNCs as pinpointed in the subsequent sections of this Letter in detail. Consequently, three anodic ECL signals may be misinterpreted and the conclusions made in Wang et al. (1) might not be true.
