The compounds of 1-[2-(hydroxyalkyl)phenyl]-3-yl-urea are described with a general formula I, where they inhibit one of key plant enzymes cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase (CKX); whereas R1 is halogen, methoxy group, trifluoromethoxy group, methylsulphanyl group or trifluoromethylsulphanyl group, R2 is hydrogen, halogen, amino group, (C1 to C5)alkyl, (C2 to C5)alkenyl, (C2 to C5)alkynyl or (C1 to C5)alkylamino group, whereas (C1 to C5)alkyl, (C2 to C5)alkenyl, (C2 to C5)alkynyl or (C1 to C5)alkylamino group is possibly substituted by hydroxy and/or amino group; and R3 and R4 are hydrogen or halogen independently of each other, and whereas it is true that if X is nitrogen, then R2 is hydrogen or halogen. The use of such substances in agriculture as plant growth and development promoters and anti-stress factors and preparations containing these derivatives is further described.
