Geotechnical Assessment of Clay Material Exibiting Double Porosity Type
Original language description
This study investigates the mechanical behavior of dump clay from northern Bohemia through compression and undrained triaxial tests. The material, originating from embankments over altered claystone to coal mining levels, shows potential static liquefaction and structural collapse under high confinement stress, with sudden drops in deviatoric and mean effective stresses. These soils pose notable safety risks, emphasizing the need for cautious foundation design. Using such materials as foundation soils requires additional investment, which must be reflected in project costs.
