  • Original language description

Objectives. The aim of the study was to assess the relationship between resilience and academic performance in youth placed at risk. Sample and setting. The sample consisted of 467 adolescents, divided into three groups: 1) youth living in family environment, 2) Caucasian, and 3) Romany youth in residential care. Child and Youth Resilience Measure, Resiliency Scales for Children & Adolescents, and Youth Self Report were used. Results. Regression analyses revealed a relationship between resilience and academic performance (AP) with 10-24% variance explained. AP in youth living in family environment was associated with psychological care provided by caregivers; individual resilience factors and Sense of mastery were associated with AP in Caucasian residential care youth; and AP in Romany residential care youth was associated with following set of factors: education, psychological and physical care provided by caregivers, emotional reactivity, and length of the stay in residential care. The results highlight the need for an individualized approach to promoting resilience at different groups of youth.
