The Relationship between Physical Activity and Health-Related Physical Fitness Components in 9-11-Year-Old Children

  • Original language description

The primary aim of this research was to investigate and present the relationships between different components of health related fitness, BMI and different levels of children’s physical activity. The secondary aim was to investigate gender differences among variables used in this current research. This study involved totally 174 children aged 9-11 years (90 boys and 84 girls) attended two primary schools in Olomouc, Czech Republic. Participants’ levels of health related fitness were assessed with FITNESSGRAM® test and physical activity levels were monitored with accelerometers device Actigraph. Between boys and girls among all others variables significant differences were found except the difference in time spent in light and moderate physical aktivity. Results from test of cardio-respiratory fitness showed that 98% of all children participated in this study reached the health fitness zones recommended by FITNESSGRAM®. It is necessary to continuously assess and identify children’s levels of health related physical fitness and levels of physical activity because they are remarkable signs of children’s healthy growth and development
