Preparing individuals to leave the children’s home and their subsequent integration in society – outputs of the quantitative part of the research survey
Original language description
Children’s establishments provide a home to children who for various reasons cannot grow up in their original family. These children are allowed to stay in children’s homes until they come of age or even until 26 years of age provided that they prepare for their future career. The present research focuses on the issue of social integration of individuals who grow up in children’s homes and are preparing to leave these establishments and gain independence. The issue of integration of individuals from institutional care in society has so far not been given sufficient research attention, and there is a lack of research studies on this phenomenon. Moreover, the Czech Republic lacks relevant legislation or methodology in this area. The paper presents partial outcomes of a quantitative research study conducted in spring 2018. For the purposes of the research, a non-standardized questionnaire was developed and distributed to the directors of all children’s homes in the Czech Republic. This research instrument was used to identify the basic demographic data about children’s homes, information about the methods of working with children who are about to leave the establishment, cooperation with other organizations concerning children’s personality development, etc. The questionnaire survey helped analyse the research area and provided information to be used in the following stages of the research aimed at children’s homes.
