Third wave of cognitive behavioural therapy: saturation of spiritual needs in relapse prevention in addicted persons by means of the mindfulness method – case study

  • Original language description

In the third wave, the cognitive behavioural therapy is associated with the use of unconventional techniques in psychotherapy (such as mindfulness), where focus is on changes in attitudes to experiencing (the first wave focused on changes in behaviour, the second wave focused on cognitive changes). The authors of the third wave of CBT started to explore the ways of increasing clients’ motivation and increasing the effectiveness of CBT in patients where traditional CBT methods failed. These authors include for example S. C. Hayes (Acceptance and commitment therapy), M. M. Linehan (Dialectical behaviour therapy) or J. Young. The paper has two objectives. The first objective is to provide a list of selected theories and research studies; the other objective is to present a case study of an addicted client using the 5 ways to wellbeing method including meditation and mindfulness. The results confirm that the therapy of addicted persons raises questions that psychology does not answer: what is good, what is a good life, what is good for my children, what is beauty, what is true, who am I, where do I come from, etc.
