Stress Coping Strategies in Relation to Selected Personality Traits of Future Primary and Secondary School Teachers
Original language description
The main aim of the presented research was to broaden the knowledge about selected psychosocial factors influencing the well-being and health of future teachers. The partial goal was to find out not only the preferences of the coping stress strategies for future teachers but also the relation to selected personality characteristics, namely openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. The research sample consisted of 319 Czech students studying teaching majors. The mean age was 22.4 years. Specifically, there were 49 (15.4%) men and 270 (84.6%) women. Standardized questionnaires: NEO five-factor Personality Inventory (Big Five) and the Stress Coping Style - SVF 78. The results were processed using the “Statistics program 10.0.” The results of the research revealed a positive correlation between the personality trait of openness and coping strategies in terms of the strategy control (POZ 3), as well as between the personality trait of agreeableness and the coping strategies in the sense of the strategy deviation (POZ 2) and the strategy control (POZ 3). Another positive correlation was shown between the personality trait of conscientiousness and the positive strategies (the total value). The results of the research show that the selected personality traits openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness play a significant role in some of the positive strategies of stress coping for future teachers, namely the positive strategy POZ 2, POZ 3. Other monitored strategies of stress coping - the strategy of undervaluation and devaluation of guilt - did not show any statistical significance in relation to the presented personality characteristics
