Béla Kéler’s correspondence includes information about his concert tours from his permanent residence in Wiesbaden (Germany) to London and Manchester (1874-1875), Berlin, Munich and Zurich (1877), Hamburg (1877-1878), Paris, Hanover and Copenhagen (1878), Hanover and Hamburg (1879), Berlin and Breslau (1881). The first concert tour which is covered by the above mentioned correspondence is Kéler’s stay in England during the years of 1874 – 1875, about which we have had only one piece of information until now in an article Kéler Béla by Zoltán Sztehlo3 from 1930, where he writes: ”…in September 1874, was (Kéler – author’s note) invited to London for four weeks, where he conducted Concerts populaires. In October of the same year, he led a cycle of concerts in the Free Trade Hall in Manchester4.” We were able to expand on this short information with findings from 9 letters which Béla Kéler had sent to his sister Emilia from London and Manchester.
