The workshop, headed and conducted by dr. Jiří Flajšar (Palacký University) outlines the basics of drama in English (the structure of five-act-play, three-act-play, and one-act-play), then analyses a short one-act play by a contemporary American playwright. Then the participants do an in-class writing exercise to get started with writing a short one-act play of their own. Next, comparison is made between the drama and film genres and the ways in which writing differs in each. Last, a short survey of screenwriting basic challenges is presented along with short videos from a well-known romantic comedy film including writerly analysis.
