The Effectiveness of Teaching Aids for Mathematics Teaching through the Eyes of Prospective Teachers

  • Original language description

During the teaching process in mathematics, the teacher influences the cognitive processes of the pupils. In cognitive development, most children at the end of primary school should understand and make the right judgment about a mathematical problem without relying on visual contact. To achieve this, the student must have sufficient experience in the development of pre-mathematical ideas. For this reason, the primary school teacher should use demonstration and practical methods in teaching, and this paper focuses on material teaching aids, which include all subjects of a material nature that are used in teaching and service to ensure and streamline the teaching process. The paper aims to reflect the work of students with aids currently recommended for teaching mathematics in seminars in the winter semester of the academic year 2021/2022 at the Faculty of Education, Palacký University Olomouc. Their task was to choose a tool in the group based on their own decision and to present it to their colleagues. A total of 30 students took part in the lessons, 12 aids were introduced. After the seminars, students had to fill out a short evaluation form of their design, which contained a total of 12 scale items and one open item. Overall, it was found that students positively evaluate the teaching focused on manipulative activities aimed at developing students' mathematical abilities and consider most of the aids to be very effective with possible use in further practice.
