This paper attempts to map the state of character education at three selected Czech faculties of education - at Charles University in Prague, Masaryk University in Brno and Palacký University in Olomouc. The paper presents the analysis of compulsory and compulsory- elective courses that are part of education and psychology modules of teacher training study programmes. Using qualitative content analysis of curricular documents, the aim was to identify to what extent the analyzed courses match the prototype of character education designed by McGrath (2018). The results show that although a number of course descriptions contain some aspects of character education, only six courses were identified as clear prototype matches.
