Influence of fixed wrist on finger motorics
Original language description
Our study is focused on determining the influence of fixation of the wrist with a static splint on the finger motorics in a group of healthy subjects (n=30) and in a group of patients (n=30) presenting with problems in the wrist area (n=15 patients withthe carpal tunnel syndrome, and n=15 patients with Colles fracture). The beat frequency in the 2nd and 3rd fingers was measured using the tapping method, in addition to the measurement of the range of movement in the 2nd metacarpo-phalangeal joint in thesagital plane without wrist fixation and with wrist fixation by means of a splint. An increase in the frequency of finger tapping in the group of patients with a wrist splint was thus proved. However, the splint did not have any influence on the range of movement in these patients. In the group comprising healthy subjects, the splint had no demonstrable effect on the finger tapping frequency nor did it reduce their range of movement.
