Surface poly-EMG assessment of muscle activation patterns during standing on one leg in two groups of female subjects of different age
Original language description
Introduction A change from a standing position on both legs to a standing on one leg requires a sensorimotor co-ordination and effective muscle activation patterns involved in postural function. It is not know, whether there are differences in sequence of muscle activation (timing) during this motor task between younger and older subjects. Aim of the study The aim of our study was to observe patterns of muscle activation during two modalities of standing on one (dominant) lower leg with the use of poly-EMG in young and older women. Material and methods The whole group of subjects under study involved 32 females, divided into two groups of different age ? 20 healthy young women and 10 older women. Muscle activity was registered with the use of 8-channelsurface polyelectromyography Myosystem 1400A in both groups of subjects - without diseases or disturbances of locomotor system. We tested four muscles bilaterally by means of surface poly-EMG (tibialis anterior muscle, medial head of gas
