The influence of the laterality of the lower limbs on the symmetry of connected carving turns
Original language description
The aim of this study is to discover whether the lateral preference of the lower limbs influences the execution of the connected carving turns or not. Six skilled skiers (age 26.5+/-1.61 years old, height 1.80+/-0.04 m, body weight 78.8+/-5.46 kg) executed 36 (18 left, 18 right) symmetric carving turns. Kinetic analysis of the final vertical component of reaction force Fz measured dynamometrically provided the information about the time of initiation and steering phases of the turn and the maximum forceFmax and force impulse FI. Statistical analysis confirmed significant differences between left and right turns in measured time and force variables. Left turns (the outer leg in the turn is the preferred right leg) were found to have a longer duration and a higher level of produced force in comparison with the right turn. The study of laterality in symmetrical carving turns has proven that lateral preference influences the execution of the turn and has indicated the necessity to devote
