Symposium brought together European, South American and Australian researchers working on IPEN study (International Physical Activity and the Environment Network). IPEN is granted from the US National Cancer Institute, and is gathering internationally-comparable data on environmental attributes, physical activity and sedentary behavior, including personal, social, and community attributes. Pooled analyses will allow examination of the impact of environmental conditions on physical activity and obesity.Symposium highlighted opportunities in countries with widely-varying social, economic, and environmental conditions to which their populations are exposed. An approach to identifying the potential role of built environment attributes in influencing sedentary behavior was also presented.
