HIA implementation and public health policy systems in Slovakia and Denmark
Original language description
Denmark and Slovakia are two countries of similar size and population however, very different history and political development. These differences naturally provided different context for development of public health systems of two countries. Interestingly enough in both systems use of HIA became part of the agenda in early 2000. In Denmark the interest and pressure raise from municipalities who got interested due to active participation in Healthy City network of WHO and due to structural and administration reform in 2007 which delegated public health and health promotion responsibilities to municipalities. In Slovakia, after attempts to introduce HIA same way via members of the Healthy City network the national level took initiative by putting HIA related requirements into Act on Protection, Support and Development of Public Health in 2007. The role of public health authorities is to judge or review HIA reports and license conduct of HIA.
