This paper discusses the issues surrounding sporting events. It analyzes the economic and other benefits to the society or locality hosting such events. Using the case study of a single running race the article presents some of the results of quantitative research conducted among the runners aimed at identifying the fundamental characteristics associated with active participation in sporting events.
