The paper presents the project "European City of Sport" and four Czech cities and capital that held this designation. The aim is to analyse the benefits of this project and consider whether this label has had an impact on the development of sport and sport tourism as well as on the quality of life.The results of research should be useful in evaluating the effectiveness of this project in promoting tourist destinations though EU-wide sports programs and in understanding to what degree the existence of such programs penetrates into the awareness of ordinary peiople living in the localities chosen to participate.
