In the area of information systems, we often use web information systems to manage various computerized agendas. At present, not only simple web information systems, but mainly integrated information systems are being used. The information systems oftenpresent data and communicate with their users through the so called portal application -- we call them the portal information systems. At Mendel University in Brno, a team of people (consisting mainly of Ph.D. students of Institute of Informatics) explores the domain of web information systems in common and designs the development methodology of web information systems of 2nd generation. While designing the methodology, we were inspired by the known theories of the three-layer architecture, the request-response cycle, or by portal theories. On the basis of these findings, we develop an idea of the way of interaction of particular components that create together the entire portal information system. The developed methodology we call the
