Defense reactions of developing somatic embryos of Algerian fir (Abies numidica)
Original language description
Defense reactions of embryonal suspensor mass (ESM), precotyledonary, cotyledonary and desiccated cotyledonary somatic embryos of Abies numidica were tested by dual cultures with tester Phaeolus schweinitzii. It seems that defense reactions are generatedat the very early stage of somatic embryo development. Both ESM and individual early somatic embryos have already inhibited mycelial growth, but the strongest defense was manifested by the precotyledonary somatic embryos. The cotyledonary and desiccatedcotyledonary embryos have also showed defense reactions but with less intensity. Eight major components of soluble proteins have already been present in the ESM and increased their concentrations during subsequent developmental stages. Protein components of 23, 20 and 14 kDa masses appear in the precotyledonary embryos only, persisting also during the cotyledonary stage. Synthesis of two low-molecular components of 6 and 3 kDA appeared in desiccated embryos. Peroxidase was found to vary
