The aim of the article is to analyse the single monetary policy in Eurozone and to evaluate its ability for stabilizing output and employment. The primary objective of the European Central Bank is to maintain price stability. This objective is defined inArticle 105 of the Treaty. Without prejudice to the primary objective, the European Central Bank has to focus on the other objectives of economic policies. It has a strong mandate for price stability and a weak responsibility for stabilizing output andemployment fluctuations. The governments of the EMU member states criticize its conservative monetary policy and refer to low output in the Eurozone. The conflict between the single monetary policy and growth rate stimulation requests are monitored by the new accession countries. They compare the costs and the benefits result from the EMU integration. One of the most important costs is the loss of the autonomous monetary policy.
