Original language description

The paper discusses selected legal aspects of the Guidelines on National Regional Aid, adopted in 1998 as binding EC rules. It focuses on the legal framework of regional aids designed to develop the less- favoured regions by supporting investment and jobcreation in a sustainable context. The objective of the aid is to foster economic development of regions with low standard of living or high unemployment rate. The regional aids may be granted in regions eligible under the derogation in Article 92(3)(a)of the Treaty establishing the European Community provided that it is justified in terms of its contribution to regional development
