A Note on Heterogeneity of Macroeconomic Policies in the EU: Cluster Analysis Approach
Original language description
The paper examines heterogeneity and its development over time in the area of macroeconomic policy harmonisation in the European Union. Also the convergence processes of the CEE and periphery countries are compared from that perspective. The cluster analysis is applied to examine the clustering structure and its development over time during the past decade in Europe. The results give evidence on diverging trends after 2007, which might be attributed to diverse reactions of countries to global financialcrisis at its beginnings. Particularly different monetary policy reactions of the Euro area member and non-member countries give rise to heterogeneity in the overall macroeconomic policy dimension.
