Comparison of SMEs and their development in the Visegrad Group
Original language description
The Visegrad Group (V4) is a cultural and political alliance of four Central European states - Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovak Republic - for the purposes of furthering their European integration, as well as for advancing military, economic and energy cooperation with one another. All four nations in the Visegrad Group are high income countries with a very high Human Development Index. SMEs, which are defined as companies with no more than 250 employees and a maximum turnover of EUR50 million, are generally seen as the backbone of the European economy, accounting for 99 % of EU businesses and providing around three-quarters of all private sector jobs. Besides the assessment of specific basic indicators of development of SMEs in the V4 countries will in the article assess the competitiveness of the V4 countries from 2007 to 2015 using The Global Competitiveness Report issued by the World Economic Forum.
