The chapter presents results of the FairTax study that introduced a theoretical concept of tax system sustainability in which the economic, social, environmental, and institutional pillars represent a variety of socio-economic and environmental objectives that may be affected by tax policies, tax tools, and related legislative measures. The text considers such a concept a prerequisite for any future technical evaluation of the sustainability of the tax systems of individual EU countries. Nevertheless, no empirical evaluation is conducted in this chapter.
