Climate migration
Original language description
In human history, environmental degradation, resource depletion, and natural hazards including climate change play a contributing role as important 'push' factors in affecting population movement, often filtered through contexts of economic factors, food deficiency, conflicts, and social inequity. Climate migration or movement tends to be a different form of migration than, for example, labour migration or political migration, because it is based on different assumptions. However, there are also some similarities. While labour motivated migration is usually understand as a more voluntary movement, climate migration is generally viewed as forced movement. In this case people lost the job or their livelihood is negatively affected by any impact of climate change, there is a direct link between the both phenomenons. And, in this respect, we can understand labour migration, at minimum partly, like a climate migration.
