Screening candidate heavy-metals resistant genes in genus Silene
Original language description
Industrial revolution and technology-based economies drove a problem with an environmental pollution caused by heavy metals. Surprisingly there are several species of plants that were able to adopt their metabolism to toxic concentration of metals in soil. Screen for genes that enable heavy-metal resistance in wild growing plants and their transfer into cultural plants is a useful tool for phytoremediation techniques through higher biomass production. We focused on isolation of metallothionein genes inSilene species, because it is known that metallothioneins (MTs) play an important role related to heavy - metal resistance or accumulation. We isolated and characterized MT3 gene in several species of genus Silene.
