Understanding the effect of organic pollutant fluoranthene on pea in vitro using cytokinins, ethylene, ethane and carbon dioxide as indicators

  • Original language description

The effect of increasing concentrations (0.1; 1 and 5 mg/L) of fluoranthene (FLT) and the duration of exposure (1; 2; 3; 7; 14 and 21 days) on the growth and production of ethylene, ethane and CO2 in Pisum sativum L. cultivated in vitro was investigated. In 21-day-old plants net photosynthesis rate, the content of FLT and cytokinins were also evaluated. The obtained results demonstrated that the concentration 0.1 mg/L FLT significantly stimulated and concentrations 1 and 5 mg/L FLT significantly inhibited the growth of pea plants after 21 days of cultivation. Within 21 days of cultivation, all applied concentrations of FLT caused significant changes in production of ethylene, ethane and CO2. When experimental plants were exposed to FLT 5 mg/L, the netphotosynthesis rate decreased. The fluoranthene content in shoot of pea plants and the content of cytokinins increased with increasing FLT concentration in the environment.
