Boron - Indispensable Micro Nutrient in Sunflower (Helianthus Annuus L.) Nutrition
Original language description
Boron is the most important micro biogenic nutrient in sunflower nutrition. It is involved in sugar metabolism and is important in energy metabolism where it has a favourable effect on the accumulation of phosphorus compounds and activates a number of enzymes. Boron is also important in integrating nitrogen into nucleic acids and in this way directly affecting the production of proteins; it also stimulates nitrate reduction and synthesis of amino acids and cytokinins. The objective of the vegetation experiment established in 2008 -2010 was to explore the effect of the date of extra-root application of boron on the yield and quality of sunflower. Four treatments were established in the experiment: 1) control -- not fertilised with boron; 2) applicationof 300 g B ha-1 at the stage of 4 developed leaves; 3) application of 300 g B.ha-1 at the beginning of elongation growth; and 4) split rate of B -- application of 150 g B ha-1 at stage V-4 (4 developed leaves) and 150 g B ha-1 at stage R-
