The screening of phthalic acid esters in operating fluids of vehicles
Original language description
Ten samples of new operational materials of vehicles have been examined for checking of the presence of phthalic acid esters (PAE). Drivers and workers of car repair services are in touch with these materials. From ten result ensue, only two samples contain values of phthalic acid esters which were below limit of possibility of determining (< 0,20 mg.kg-1). In the remaining eight samples the presence of phthalic acid esters has been demonstrated (the phthalates ranging was in three samples ranging from0,33 to 0,92 mg.kg-1; in four samples from 3,46 to 9,78 mg.kg-1 and in one case the value was of 108,46 mg.kg-1). The main danger of their presence in operating material is mainly in the fact that the exposure to phthalates in operating materials may occur via absorption through the skin and via inhalation. Phthalates are animal carcinogens which are capable to cause necrosis or malformation of tissues. They are dangerous for liver action and they can cause reproduction toxicity of labor
