The impact of application of biological waste from processing of Jatropha curcas L. and organic waste compost on soil microbial activity, soil hydrophobicity and leaching of nitrate nitrogen from arable soil

  • Original language description

This paper deals with possibility of using combined application of biological waste from processing of Jatropha curcas L. (JSC) and organic waste compost (Cp) to reduce the leaching of nitrate nitrogen and to support the microbial activity in arable soil. To demonstrate the effect of JSC and Cp application (separately and in mixture) on microbial activity, soil hydrophobicity, leaching of mineral nitrogen and plant production, the pot experiment was performed. Six variants with different doses of JSC and Cp (50 t/ha; 100 t/ha) and mixture of JSC and Cp (25 t/ha of JSC + 25 t/ha of Cp; 50 t/ha of JSC + 50 t/ha of Cp) and one variant (control) without addition of BW or Cp were prepared. The level of microbial activity was derived from values of basal respiration (BAS), soil hydrophobicity was determined based on the values of saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) and leaching of nitrate nitrogen (NO3--N) was measured by application of ion exchange resins. The significant differences in
