The evaluation of the efficiency of hormonal synchronization of oestrus of zwartbles sheep

  • Original language description

The oestrus synchronization before insemination or before natural breeding makes breeding less demanding work and time-wise, mainly considering the lambing and subsequent balancing of the herd. This experiment worked with thirty-six ewes of the zwartbles breed. The synchronization was achieved using hormonal preparations (intravaginal sponges) Chronogest, Ovigest and CIDR. After the removal of the sponges, which took place 14 days after the insertion, the serum gonadotropin PMSG was applied. In the following 56 - 60 hours the sheep were inseminated with fresh, diluted and chilled semen. The research focused on the efficiency of these hormonal preparations along with the subsequent specifics of oestrus behaviour in individual inseminated ewes. The cervix mucus quality and the openness of cervix were the highest after the use of Chronogest and Ovigest, however, the ewes whose oestrus was synchronized using CIDR showed the highest activity. The highest pregnancy rate after insemination was reached after synchronization using Ovigest (62.5 %) and after the subsequent natural breeding with rams, whose semen was used for the insemination as well, a total pregnancy rate of 91.67 % was achieved.
