The effect of parent stock age on embryo development at oviposition

  • Original language description

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of parent stock age on the stage of embryonic development after oviposition in laying type chickens. The evaluation started at the age of 26 weeks in Bovans Brown parent stock. Sixty hatching eggs were extracted to determine the stage of embryonic development every two weeks as long as the parent stock reached the age of 68 weeks. In this experiment totally 1260 hatching eggs was examined. After determining the stage of embryonic development in the monitored weeks it was found that at 34th, 40th, 44th, 46th, 50th, 52nd, 56th, 59th, 61th and 66th week of parent stock age the stage of embryonic development was significantly higher (P<0.05). The biggest shifts in the stage of embryonic development occurred at 44th (10.8), 50th (10.1), 52nd (10.4), 59th, (10.2) and 61th (10.1) week of age. The stage of embryonic development after oviposition can influence the effect of preincubation on hatchability.
