Evaluation of the best stallions from the Cor de la Bryère line in Czech Warmblood breeding
Original language description
The main aim of this study was to evaluate the best stud horses from the Cor de la Bryère line in Czech Warmblood breeding. The evaluation of stud horses from this breeding line was performed by comparing the competition results and body measurements of descendants by the most influential sires from the line in Czech Warmblood breeding. The observed attributes for evaluating the quality of stallions were the highest levels achieved in showjumping competitions by descendants competing in the years 1993-2018 and the values of descendants' basic body measurements, i.e. stick height at withers, tape height at withers, chest circumference and cannon bone circumference. The comparison was carried out on the offspring of a total of seven stud horses registered in three stud books (three Holsteiners, three Hanoverians and one Czech Warmblood). The group for comparison consisted of 376 descendants for jumping performance and 347 descendants for body measurements, all of the Czech Warmblood breed, by the sires 2772 Calanthano, 2800 Carlos, 410 Carol, 2726 Cartouche, 814 Catango Z, 411 Comero and 2667 Chazar. The GLM model revealed high statistical conclusiveness of the influence of the sire and the year of birth on the jumping results of offspring. Multiple comparison by Tukey-B testing demonstrated high statistical differences between the groups of descendants by 814 Catango Z and 411 Comero, and also between the year groups 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2012. Multiple comparison of the basic body measurements revealed a high statistically conclusive influence of the sire only in the case of cannon bone circumference. With the other body measurements the influence of the sire was not proven. When individual year groups were assessed by cannon bone circumference, the best group of descendants was judged to be those born in 1994. It should be noted that all of the stallions from the assessed line are beneficial for Czech Warmblood breeding.
