Regional competitiveness used to be until recent day relatively unknown concept. However, with connection to the Regional policy introduced by the European Union and its implementation by the member states, it became very important and largely discussedterm. Due to the different understanding and multi-dimensionality of the concept many different models for measurement of regional competitiveness have been developed. They differ in the complexity, type of data used, selection, organization and weighting of individual indicators and sub-indexes, method of calculation of the final score and by the territorial level at which the competitiveness is measured. This article is focused on different competitiveness indexes introduced by World Economic Forum and Joint Research Centre of the EU, that currently are used to evaluate competitiveness of world regions and rank their mutual positions.
