The migration development in Europe was highly affected by its post-war historical development and a long and painful era of economic transition of Central and Eastern European countries that started after the collapse of communist regimes in early 90's.The paper evaluates external migration flows in the period of economic transition in the Czech Republic and presents results obtained in the study of the percentage proportion of selected groups of countries in forming the number of immigrants, emigrants and migration balance in the defined interest field and time interval including developmental trends of studied events using adequate statistical methods. Applied procedures of the statistical processing of empirical data make possible, in addition tothe exact description of the proportion of selected country groups and aggregated particular countries on the total number of immigrants, emigrants and derived values of migration increases or decreases, also the description of developmen
