This paper aims to explore the main differences and synergies of PMI and IPMA standards and to find out their usability in the business practice. On the basis of analysis of main standard's resources - A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge(PMBOK Guide) and IPMA Competence Baseline (ICB) there are explored the main differences and synergies of PMI and IPMA standards in the paper. Results of the analysis are used for answering the question - Which standard should be chosen for given business? From the business point of view for managers it is crucial to realize what is more important for their business. Whether more attention on process skills or on people skills will lead them to project's success? Even though both of them seems to be atthe same importance when to choose one of the standards the answer must be found however it is complicated.
