National Cultural Heritage Management in the Vysocina Region
Original language description
This contribution deals with national cultural heritage management in Vysocina, the third least visited region in the Czech Republic. In 2015, there was a questionnaire survey implemented to identify reasons that prevent the development of tourism, because this region has great cultural potential. Its aim was to find out an opinion of visitors (n = 484) on national heritage sites and cultural monuments situated in Vysocina in order to clarify issues of cultural heritage management. Statistical analysis of the survey results was performed using frequency distribution and analysis of dependency. 96.9% of respondents visited at least one of three UNESCO sites in Vysocina. 78.7% visited an old town in Telc, 68.4% the Jewish District and and the Basilica of St. Procopius in Trebic, and 42.4% the Pilgrimage Church of John of Nepomuk in Zelena Hora. Most respondents (77.9%) visit castles, chateaus and fortresses. Among the the second most visited sites in the region are observation towers (67.8% of respondents). The third most important sites are technical monuments (41.7% of respondents). Considering the entrance fee, 44.6% of respondents think it is acceptable and 2.3% of them not. According to 53.1% of respondents, the entrance fee varies from place to place. 80.6% of respondents travel to heritage sites and cultural monuments by car. Only 5.8% prefer walking and 3.5% of respondents travel by bicycle. During their trip, only 5% of visitors stayed in the Vysocina Region for a week. 12.6% were there for 3 days. The main reason for low attendance of heritage sites and cultural monuments is their bad promotion (31% of respondents), 26.8% of respondents consider its main cause low attractiveness of the region, and 21.4% lack of additional activities in the area. Finally, there are proposals for the improvement of heritage sites and cultural monuments management that may be applicable also in other regions trying to solve the same type of issues included.
