Privacy and Right to Know the Truth in Slovakia
Original language description
The right to protection of privacy, personal honor and dignity is guaranteed by the Slovak Constitution, as well as the Civil code. The 1992 Constitution explicitly states that "the inviolability of the person and its privacy is guaranteed. It may be limited only in cases laid down by law.1" One of the limits that allows for the restriction of privacy is connected to the right to know the truth about the authoritarian past of Slovakia. This chronicle analyzes its legal definition and application in Slovakia after the establishment of the Nation's Memory Institute in 2002.
